This all-time classic from Zoffany has been repainted in a relaxed watercolour style. A hand-drawn interpretation of an original document, its influences are thought to come from a late 19th century French artwork, painted to emulate earlier fabrics and embroidery (17th to early 18th century). Extravagant and uplifting, the baroque-style scrolling foliage and stylised flowers give a rather grandiose overall effect, hence the name Pompadour. Digital print on woven grass cloth.
