This all-time Zoffany classic has been repainted in a relaxed watercolor style. A hand-drawn interpretation of an original document, its influences are believed to come from late 19th century French artwork, painted to emulate earlier fabrics and embroidery (17th to early 18th century). Extravagant and uplifting, the baroque-style scrolling foliage and stylized flowers give an overall rather grandiose effect, hence the name Pompadour. Digital print on woven grass cloth.
