The Danube Delta has an area of approximately 175,000 ha covered with reed. As a resource, it has been used by villagers/populations for thousands of years for animal feed, in construction or for interior decoration. One of the most distinctive features of Danube Delta houses is their reed roofs. Reed harvesting has been recognised as one of the most widespread occupations among the Delta inhabitants.
