Adorning the walls of the Knightshayes Court Boudoir in Devon, "Burges Butterfly" was designed by the architect and designer of Gothic Revival, William Burges (1827-1881), and has an obvious relationship with another wallpaper of the same origin, "Burges Snail." Like the snail, the design does not have a deeper historical association with Knightshayes Court, the only complete country house by Burges, but it is another pattern by Burges, influenced by his passion for medieval European architecture and art and Asian design influence. This fun and charming wallpaper has been faithfully reproduced in five contemporary colors printed on the surface.
