A lively and attractive design with eye-catching birds and delicate floral motifs. Slightly raised and incorporating rich gilt detailing, the pattern was originally designed to mimic patterned leather. Based on early 18th century French textiles and furniture, including panelling, scrolls and cross-hatching, this wallpaper was found at Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire. An elegant Victorian house, built between 1861 and 1863, it was privately owned and lived in until 1990, and has since been preserved. The paper was undoubtedly a family favourite: unusually it was used in both the library and the morning room in reverse colour combinations, and can still be seen in situ today.
