This sculpture, made in porcelain, depicts a hare delicately ornamented according to a design inspired by the famous nature motif prints that William Morris, one of the key figures in the revival of the decorative arts, applied to his works. The piece is finished in matt black porcelain and decorated with Morris's characteristic plant forms, finished in green and metallic tones. William Morris was a multi-faceted British artist, a renovator of design and the decorative arts. As a leading figure in the Art and Crafts movement, which originated in late 19th century Britain, he was concerned with the revival and improvement of craft production methods in the face of the emerging forms of mass production.
