Description:
The origins of Aztec dances take us back to Mexico, to pre-Hispanic times. They began as ritual dances of thanksgiving to the gods and connection with the earth. The dancers were arranged in large circles and in the centre of these, where the energy was concentrated, the offerings were placed.
Aztec dances were also considered a ritual of purification of the body and mind and were seen as a means to reach a higher level of consciousness about the origin and destiny of man.
This creation, with its complex porcelain workmanship given its size, position and gestural expressiveness, is an exponent of Lladró's virtuosity, both formally and decoratively. As a whole, the kneepads, skirt, anklets, breastplate and plumage have been worked with great ornamental detail and exuberant decoration with enamels and metallic lustre.
For the decoration of the feathers, a wide range of greenish shades has been developed and airbrushed solutions have been introduced with newly created colours. Work has also been done expressly on the decoration of the obsidian that they used to carry on their weapons and banners, a type of rock to which protective properties that ward off negativity have been attributed for thousands of years.
A work that conveys the power and energy expressed in these traditional dances.
